“I love how summer just wraps its arms around you like a warm blanket.” —Kellie Elmore

…a nice 88° with mid-humidity filled blanket. I remember a couple months back a friend of mind saying “I bet we have a mild summer.” And then summer began as if saying “Hold my beer!” In all seriousness, though, I can’t believe how far into 2021 we are already, and I feel like I have been so busy.

Coming into the 2021 Summer season I have a few mini sessions planned, and weather permitting the first one of those is scheduled for Saturday. I’m hoping mother nature chooses to be nice to me so that I don’t have to deal with a “rain day” issue. As everyone already knows by now the first summer mini’s are my Americana. I’m really pleased with how things have turned out…..even if I’m not fully booked 90% of the fun of what I do is designing the set up. I am, however, taking notes this year on when I schedule minis vs when is a better time to schedule. I always try to schedule mini’s with enough advance for delivery for key holidays, but sometimes I miss the mark. Hey, I’m not perfect.

The second Summer mini’s are my back to school mini’s which I will be photographing in July. I’m soooo excited that I managed to design these way under budget so I will be able to lower the cost per mini session since a lot of my pricing is dictated by the cost that went into them. I have a vintage school desk, some books, apples, a globe, and I’ll be making custom signs for each child that is being photographed displaying their name, year, and grade. I’m even making a “little bitty” setup for those daycare kiddos, because I TRY not to leave anyone out! I’m scheduled to photograph those example photos *hopefully* on June 3rd.

Next I will have my lemonade stand mini’s in August, and believe me there is already a lot of buzz about them. I’ve already even started taking deposits for my more regular clientele to book…and that is before I even photograph the “example” photo set up. The lemonade stand mini’s are by far the most stylized mini sessions that I will have designed to date. Simple lemonade stand? Oh no. Me? Go big or go home, right? I’ve got faux candy, donuts, cupcakes, and more planned. It’s going to be a blast. And, again, not to be leaving anyone out…there will also be a “secondary” scene for families with a yellow and white plaid picnic mat, lemonade, sweets, books, and more. These examples will be photographed *hopefully* on July 17th.

The last mini session event I hope to have for the summer is going to be sunflower minis. I have officially chosen the place I think I want to have them held and I’ve contacted them for booking information. Once they go live for photographer booking I’m snagging what I can. Sadly, because of the circumstances I won’t have the opportunity to photograph “example” photos, but…I’m hoping that people trust me and look at what I do enough to book. If I end up sitting there all day twiddling my thumbs then at least I’ll get some glorious photographs for 2022, right?

I’m asked by some friends how I “make money” when I put so much into things never knowing the outcome. Because I’m not in this for the money. I’m not over here living large and making bank on the memories of others. That’s not how I roll. This always has been and always will be my passion and therapy. As long as I break even…I’m content.

And all of this is happening in between regular sessions, a much needed vacation, and back to school. BTW…if ya’ll can put out good weather vibes for the Gulf, that would be great. This mama is looking forward to her New Orleans vacay!

At the end of the summer, though, I think I’ll be taking a little bit of a break. I’m ALREADY planning Christmas minis (and boudoir)….and it is going to be madness! Madness I tell ya!
